Notre-Dame-du-Nord's climate feature an astonishing season contrast. From harsh Winters and virgin snow to the lush green of the temperate Summer, transiting by the explosion of Autumn colors and the perfumed winds of Spring, seasons impose thei rythms to human activities without slowing down its intensity. The climate is of temperate continental type, which allows plants to flourish in a great variety of species. The affluent wildlife thus have a luxurious environment to live in.

In horticultural terms, the climate zone is estimated as a 3B type.

Our climate allows a wide array of cultures:

  • Fodder:
    • Alfalfa, clover, etc.
    • Honey, Bromer, Doctyle, etc.
    • Fodder corn, etc.
  •  

  • Large crops:
    • Barley, oat, wheat, etc.
    • Canola
There are also interesting and promising experiments with soja.

Temperatures vary between -21,5°C (January) and 25°C (July). The freezing season lasts about 120 days. The growing season is much longer and the four months of Summer average temperature over 10°C.

 

The daylight duration vary between 12 and 16 hours a day and the sunshine zone is of 1903 hours a year, which is close to the maximum on record in the province of Québec.

 

The yearly average of precipitation in Notre-Dame-du-Nord is 824 mm, from which three quarters consists of rain and only 203,54 mm is snow. The rain reach a maximum in Summer and February is when the most snow is recorded, an average of 43 cm. The climate is much drier here than in urban areas such as Montréal or Québec city.
